Prof. Dr. Friedrich Graf von Westphalen appointed to Stakeholder Consultation Group for Consumer Rules for Online and Digital Purchases

The new European Commission with its president Jean-Claude Juncker has pledged to take ambitious legislative steps to fully unleash the potential of e-commerce in the Digital Single Market. Thus the Commission plans to modernize and simplify consumer rules for online purchases.  Vera Jourova, EU-Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality in the Juncker Commission, has been tasked to lead the program. In the framework of the development of this initiative, Commissioner Jourova has set up a stakeholder group, which will be consulted on key issues and make recommendations on how these can be tackled.

The group will consist of representatives of consumer organizations, retailers, intermediaries, small and medium-sized enterprises und digital content providers. Until July 2015, the group will regularly meet at the premises of the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss the legal framework of online purchases, identify problems and gaps and make corresponding recommendations, taking into account legitimate interests of both consumers and businesses. Our partner Prof. Dr. Friedrich Graf von Westphalen has been appointed by the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe to represent same in the group in his capacity as chairman of the European Private Law Committee.
