In each issue of our newsletter, people from our firm introduce themselves personally. This time it is the turn of our corporate lawyer Moritz Rothe.
I was born and grew up in Freiburg i. Br. - strictly speaking, however, I was not born in the right Freiburg clinic to be a Freiburg Bobbele. Fascinated from an early age by Freiburg and its diversity and not lastly the proximity to the mountains and lakes beyond the borders in France and Switzerland, I decided to do my civilian service as a paramedic with the German Red Cross in Freiburg after leaving school.
Although I had outgrown my clichéd career aspirations as a child (including everything from digger driver to policeman and fireman), even after my civilian service I was still not sure whether I could imagine a career as a lawyer or whether I should pursue my scientific interests. In my opinion, studying law opens up a very broad field of activity, so I ultimately decided to pursue it from this point of view as well.
However, my plans to study law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich were thwarted by a stay abroad in Spain lasting several months and unfortunate experiences with international postal services, which prevented me from enrolling in Munich (on time). So I started my studies at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg and finally moved to Munich after six semesters in Freiburg. After overcoming the language barrier as far as possible and adapting to the most important Bavarian customs - “Monaco Franze - Der ewige Stenz” offers a basic introduction to Bavarian in 10 chapters - I took my first state examination at the Ludwig Maximilian University. Having grown fond of Bavaria and Munich in the meantime, I completed my legal clerkship at the Munich District Court with a station in Cape Town and, after positive impressions during my clerkship, decided to work as a lawyer specializing in commercial and corporate law at a large German commercial law firm in Munich. After another stint at a medium-sized German commercial law firm, the birth of our son catalyzed my wife's and and my own desire to return to Freiburg and join FGvW at the beginning of 2023.
My enthusiasm for dealing with commercial and corporate law issues as well as the individual and ever-changing requirements of providing strategic and legal advice to clients has never waned since I started working as a lawyer.
As much as I enjoy my job, I also enjoy my free time with family and friends. I like to travel to the most remote corners of the world, especially to Italy, or simply have a good time in Freiburg and the surrounding area. I like to spend time off in Freiburg on my bike - for example on Freiburg's local mountain, the Schauinsland - walking along the Rhine and Kaiserstuhl or dining and enjoying regional specialties in Freiburg and the surrounding area - it never gets boring!
