In each issue of our newsletter, members of our firm introduce themselves personally. This time, it is the turn of our construction law specialist Jan-Jakob Fahrländer.

I was born in Stuttgart and grew up near Frankfurt. I completed my studies in Freiburg—my parents' birthplace, where a large part of my family still lives today. Since then, I have remained closely connected to the region. Even though I did not grow up here, my personal and family roots in Freiburg were and remain an important anchor for my professional and private life.

Even in my youth, I developed a keen interest in social issues and questions of right and wrong. At the same time, I became aware of how much the law shapes and influences our everyday lives. This led to an early desire to become a lawyer, which was reinforced by my enjoyment of arguing precisely, weighing up different perspectives, and working out complex issues.

For me, law is the discipline in which analytical thinking meets practical application. What particularly appeals to me about the legal profession is the trusting cooperation with clients. For me, legal advice is not an end in itself, but always part of a personal relationship in which the aim is to find viable solutions together.

In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, especially hiking. I also like reading well-researched reports on social and political issues. Spending time with my family and children is very important to me. I also find balance in cooking—preferably spicy food. Gardening is another hobby of mine: it combines my enthusiasm for nature and cooking, and I enjoy watching with my children as something grows from a seed that we can later harvest and prepare together. My favorite travel destinations include Portugal, where I spent part of my studies, and Denmark, which has been a regular vacation spot for my family since my childhood and is associated with many fond memories.
