We introduce: Felix Häringer

Dr Felix Häringer

I was born in Freiburg and grew up in the immediate vicinity of the city. My childhood was heavily influenced by tennis—I spent countless afternoons and weekends on the court. As a young boy, I therefore harbored—like so many children with a favorite sport—the dream of one day playing tennis professionally. Of course, that was more of a childish fantasy than a serious life plan. As I gained a better understanding of myself, it quickly became clear that I simply lacked the necessary talent for it. Instead, it became all the more clear to me where my path should actually lead: I wanted to become a lawyer. This desire was established early on and was unshakable for me—there was never a real alternative. Even as a child, I was fascinated by the idea of advocating for others, arguing a case, and finding solutions to difficult questions—even though I didn’t yet know exactly what this profession entailed.

The logical next step was therefore to study law at the University of Freiburg. Even during my studies, I focused on labor law. After completing my studies, I did my legal clerkship, which included a rotation in the labor law department at Friedrich Graf von Westphalen in Freiburg, followed by my doctoral studies.

After completing my legal training, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to return to the employment law department at Friedrich Graf von Westphalen. And so one thing led to another—I had the opportunity to start my professional career there directly as an attorney. It’s a decision I’ve never regretted. Today, I particularly enjoy the diversity of the legal profession, especially in labor law: I don’t just sit at a desk drafting contracts or briefs, but I’m also frequently in court and in direct conversation with clients. This varied mix makes the job exciting and fulfilling for me—that’s exactly what inspired me from the very beginning.

Outside of work, sports are also an integral part of my life. Whenever time allows, I play tennis, go jogging, and constantly set new athletic goals for myself—I’m currently training for my next marathon. In the winter, skiing is, of course, a must.

Traveling is also a valuable way for me to unwind from my professional routine. In the summer, I love spending time by the sea. In the winter, I prefer heading to the Swiss Alps—after all, I don’t want my skis to rust from lack of use.
