FGvW advises on generation change at Teldex Studio Berlin

As part of a management buy-out (MBO), our firm has advised the new shareholders on the takeover of Teldex Studio Berlin GmbH.

The new shareholders are long-time employees Wolfgang Schiefermair and Benedikt Schröder. The renowned sound engineers and producers Friedemann Engelbrecht and Martin Sauer, who had managed the company since 2002, have sold their shares but will remain associated with the studio through joint activities, while René Möller, who had already joined as a shareholder in 2010, will take over the management together with Benedikt Schröder and ensure continuity.

Teldex Studio Berlin follows in the 70-year tradition of the record label “TELDEC Telefunken-Decca Schallplatten GmbH”, founded in 1950, and is considered one of the most renowned addresses for high-quality music productions in Europe. Originally a joint venture between Telefunken GmbH and Decca Records, TELDEC became part of the Time-Warner Group in 1987. In 2002, the Berlin recording studio was sold to Teldex Studio Berlin GmbH as part of a management buy-out. Since then it has operated as an independent studio and is regarded as one of the leading addresses for excellent sound recordings. Its main clients include the major labels Warner Classics, Sony Classical and Universal Music with Deutsche Grammophon and DECCA.

With a broad portfolio that includes classical orchestral and chamber music, jazz, modern pop productions and film music, the studio inspires international artists, labels and music lovers alike. Thanks to the outstanding acoustics of the famous large recording hall and a highly qualified team, Teldex Studio Berlin sets standards in music production. Under the leadership of the next generation of shareholders, the course has been set for a successful future.

The new shareholders were comprehensively advised on the management buy-out by our partner Albert Schröder (Lead, Corporate, M&A, Freiburg).
