In each issue of our newsletter, people from our firm introduce themselves personally. This time it is the turn of our tax lawyer Florian Keller.
I was born and grew up in Berlin. I often spent my youth on the tennis court or the ski slopes. After living and going to school in New Zealand's Southern Island for a year, I returned to Berlin for my A-levels. Due to my interest in economics and politics, I kept toying with the idea of studying political science or economics during this time. A career in the senior civil service at the Federal Foreign Office also seemed attractive to me at the time.
After the husband of my politics teacher at school, himself a former ambassador and senior civil servant at the Federal Foreign Office, told me that I could also pursue my interests very well with a law degree, I began my law studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
Already during my studies, I decided to specialize in corporate and tax law. To be fair, my great interest in tax law was due to my lecturer at the university at the time. After my first state examination, I also started working at EY in Transaction Tax/M&A Tax to bridge the obligatory waiting period for a traineeship in Berlin.
After my legal clerkship, it was clear to me that I definitely wanted to become a consultant. I started working in a tax law boutique in Berlin. I mainly advised on tax law, but also on related corporate law. I stayed there for just over four years before joining FGvW.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling and spending time with family, friends, my wife and my now one-year-old son.
