In each issue of our newsletter, people from our firm introduce themselves personally. This time, it is the turn of trade mark and design law lawyer Eva Kessler from our Freiburg office.

Since January 1, 2022, Eva Kessler is a partner at our Freiburg office after having been part of FGvW as a lawyer and counsel for many years. She is specialized in trademark law. Born in Landau in the Palatinate wine region, her first experiences abroad were established during an exchange student program with a US High School in Celina, Ohio. Since then, she is passionate about traveling, meeting people from different cultures and learning about their lives, history and languages. Inspired by an internship at the District Court of her home-town Landau during the last year at school, she decided to study law after her Abitur exam, first in Würzburg and then in Freiburg. She completed her second state examination in law at the District Court in Freiburg.

During the first ten years of her working life, Eva was engaged as an in-house lawyer in the trademark department of Gödecke, a German affiliate of the US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, in Freiburg. Besides counseling and handling of trademark matters and trademark issues, the close cooperation with the company’s marketing division was one of her work’s focuses.

Eva joined Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner in 2002. Since then, Eva enjoys working with clients from different fields of business. She likes to be involved in all stages of a trademark’s lifecycle from its creation, the searches for potential conflicts, the obtaining of trademark protection and the defending of the client’s trademark rights. Especially the international approach of her work in this field of law and the daily exchange with colleagues from all over the world is highly appreciated. Eva also enjoys travelling: she regularly attends the INTA conferences for international trade mark lawyers and likes to meet clients and colleagues throughout the world. Whenever Eva is back in Freiburg, she is excited to find new products in the shelves of supermarkets or in advertising marked with trademarks where she was involved in the creation and protection process.

In her leisure time, Eva enjoys spending time with her family, especially travelling together with her husband and her children and with friends. In addition, jazz dancing and reading are also favorite activities.
