In each issue of our newsletter, we introduce people from our firm personally. This time, it is the turn of Stephan Fischer, lawyer for commercial and corporate law, from our Freiburg office.

Stephan Fischer joined the team led by Jan Henning Martens and Sven Ufe Tjarks within the commercial and corporate department of Friedrich Graf von Westphalen's Freiburg office as a lawyer in January 2020.

Born and raised in Freiburg, Stephan Fischer decided to study law at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg after finishing school because of the wide range of professional fields to choose in which the learned legal skills could be converted into the practice. Stephan Fischer discovered his preference for commercial and corporate law during his studies. After completing his first state examination, he wrote his dissertation on the topic of "The Business Judgment Rule as General Legal Figure". He was supervised by Professor Merkt and worked in parallel as research assistant at the Institute for Foreign and International Private Law, Dept. II, of the University of Freiburg.

After completing his legal clerkship, which included stations at renowned law firms in Munich and London, Stephan Fischer decided to work as a lawyer at the Freiburg office of Friedrich Graf von Westphalen. In particular, he appreciates the international orientation of the mandates and the diversified and exciting work at FGvW. Furthermore, Stephan Fischer also appreciates the great working atmosphere due to very nice and friendly colleagues.

In his free time, Stephan Fischer plays the piano and practices various sports. He played soccer for many years at club level, acquired a coaching license while still at school, and volunteered for many years as trainer in youth soccer.
