We mourn the loss of our longtime partner Eberhard Freiherr von Rummel

From 1972 to 2019, Eberhard von Rummel worked as a lawyer in our Freiburg office. His areas of practice included public law with a focus on economic administrative and environmental law, private building law and last but not least - thanks to his proficiency in numerous foreign languages - foreign and international law. Eberhard von Rummel was particularly pleased to participate as an arbitrator in numerous international arbitration proceedings.

Eberhard von Rummel was born in Stuttgart in 1941. Thanks to his father's diplomatic activities, he was already at home in the world as a child and adolescent. He studied law and political science in Freiburg, Rome, Munich and Berkeley/California, where he received his Master of Laws degree. His doctorate at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg was based on a comparative law treatise on the compensation of certain financial losses under English, American and German law. The encounter with other legal systems has always remained the focus of Eberhard von Rummel's professional activities. As co-founder and long-time chairman of the German-Khakassic Lawyers' Association, he brought people from very different legal cultures into contact with each other; at sometimes adventurous meetings in Khakassia, he was also able to perfect his Russian language skills.

In our law firm, Eberhard von Rummel was a valued, level-headed lawyer and consultant for numerous clients. He died unexpectedly on May 28, 2020 at the age of 78.

We have lost a highly educated, amiable colleague - his considerate, engaging personality will always be remembered.
