In each edition of our newsletter, we personally introduce people working for our firm. This time it is the turn of Christian Claeßens from our Cologne office.

Christian Claeßens LL.M., born in 1988, has been working as a lawyer at FGvW since October 2019. As part of the Cologne labor law team, he supports our partners Andreas Imping and Sven Köhnen.

During his childhood and youth in the Rhenish town of Heinsberg, Christian Claeßens developed a profound interest in politics, history and international affairs at an early age. Inspired by his older brother, who is also a lawyer today, he decided to study law at the University of Cologne after graduating from high school. In the course of his studies, Christian Claeßens discovered his passion for labor law, in which he also completed his university studies. As a student assistant at the Institute for Modern Private Law History, he was able to gain valuable insights into the origins and systematics of modern civil law according to the continental European legal tradition.

For his legal training Christian Claeßens chose an international focus – first with a student year abroad in Barcelona, later with a master's degree study in San Francisco. In addition to his German mother language, Christian Claeßens speaks English and Spanish fluently. During his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Cologne, Christian Claeßens gained further important experience for his current practice as a lawyer, inter alia in the labor law team of an international law firm and the German Embassy in Quito (Ecuador).

In his free time, Christian Claeßens enjoys doing sports, including squash, climbing and cycling. Besides, he likes going on city trips and spending a lot of time in nature, preferably hiking in the region of Bergisches Land and in the Eifel.
