Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner promotes two of its Freiburg lawyers to Counsel

The partners‘ meeting of FGvW has resolved to promote two of our Freiburg lawyers, Eva Kessler and Sabine Riegger, to the position of counsel.

Eva Kessler has been a lawyer in our Freiburg office since 2002 and advises national and international clients in the field of trademark law. Her main focus is on trademark applications, portfolio advice, opposition proceedings and delimitation agreements with respect to trademarks. Eva worked in the trademark department of Gödecke/Warner Lambert (now part of the Pfizer concern) before joining FGvW.

Sabine Riegger has been admitted to practice law since 2003. Initially, she was part of our company and commercial law practice group.  After her maternity leave, she joined our banking and insolvency law practice group and since 2010 closely cooperates with our Freiburg partner Frank Büchler.

Managing partners Barbara Mayer and Carsten Laschet stated the following: „By promoting Eva and Sabine to the position of counsel, we demonstrate our appreciation of two experienced lawyers who both work part time to be able to also take care of their children, but are nevertheless responsible for mandates and clients. Their promotion also shows our commitment to all of our associates and demonstrates that there is no "up or out" at FGvW. On the contrary, all options are available, depending on the individual’s personal situation, needs and possibilities."  At FGvW, the position of counsel is available to particularly qualified and experienced associates with 5 - 7 years of professional experience. Counsels can also still be appointed as partners at a later point in time. In addition, associates can make partner after 5 -7 years without becoming counsel first.

Eva and Sabine are happy about the promotion, pointing out that colleagues at other companies or law firms often envy them for the flexibility available to them at FGvW.

The position of counsel was introduced at FGvW in 2012 to create a position for experienced lawyers who are responsible for clients and independently deal with mandates, but for whom partnership is not (currently) an option for the one or other reason.

To date, FGvW has two counsels: Corina Leimert from our banking law practice in Frankfurt and Gundo Haacke, who is admitted as attorney in South Africa and has been a lawyer in our Freiburg office since 2009.
