Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner Advises on Sale of Frankfurt Messeturm

GLL Group has sold the well-known Frankfurt Messeturm to the US investment company Blackstone by means of a share deal, following an international tender process. GLL Group was advised by Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner. The parties agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.

The postmodern, 256.5 m high Frankfurt Messeturm, the construction of which was completed in 1991, has become a landmark of Frankfurt. It remains one of Europe’s highest office buildings to date, with 63 floors and 62,000 qm of floor space. The main lessees of the building are the US investment bank Goldman Sachs and the Bank of New York Mellon.

Our partner Tom Erdt has been advising in relation to the investment since 2006. He joined Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner on 1 January 2014 and has since been a partner in the Corporate – Real Estate Team.

Lawyers from several of Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner's offices were involved in the transaction:

•    Dr. Tom Erdt, Partner in Frankfurt (Corporate Real Estate);
•    Dr. Barbara Anzellotti, Senior Associate in Cologne (Real Estate)
•    Sarah Horstbrink, Associate in Frankfurt (Real Estate)
•    Dr. Barbara Mayer, Partner in Freiburg (M&A)

Further law firms involved in the transaction were Clifford Chance (Frankfurt) as additional advisors of GLL, Hengeler Müller as advisors of Blackstone, and Fiebinger Polak Leon & Partner (Vienna) as advisors of the Messeturm minority shareholders.
