Rechtsanwalt (Lawyer) and Partner
Prof. Dr. Tobias Lenz has been practicing law at our Cologne office since 1993 and has been a partner since 1998. He advises national and international clients on product liability and product safety law, as well as on insurance law across all lines of insurance. His litigation and advisory practice focuses on director and executive liability (officer liability), particularly in complex compliance matters involving typical D&O insurance law issues, as well as in the area of ever-growing cyber risks (cyber insurance). Another focus is contract law, particularly the drafting and negotiation of contracts involving liability and insurance law. In addition, Prof. Dr. Lenz has many years of experience in commercial and corporate law, both in preventive structural and risk analysis as well as in litigation and arbitration. He regularly serves as an arbitrator in specialized proceedings and sits on various advisory and supervisory boards, where he contributes his legal and economic expertise on strategic and governance issues.
In addition to his legal practice, Prof. Dr. Lenz is committed to teaching and training. He is a professor of national and international business law at Rheinische Hochschule Köln and served as director of the university’s Institute for Liability and Insurance Law. He is also a lecturer at the University of Münster as part of the “Financial Lines” certification program offered by the German Society for Financial Loss Liability (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Vermögensschadenhaftpflicht e.V.) and serves as an instructor for specialized insurance law attorneys at the German Lawyers’ Academy in Berlin.
He regularly publishes on issues of insurance law, product liability, directors’ and officers’ liability (including D&O), as well as current developments in the areas of cyber risks and compliance, and serves as a speaker at professional events.
