Startups go international – with FGvW!

The rapid development of the startup scene is not only a German phenomenon, but a worldwide development. We accompany our startups on their way going international together with our worldwide network of partner firms. This does not only relate to the expansion of their operations but also includes negotiations for financing and of exits.

Startups are becoming more and more international in the choice of their headquarters. But also investors do not stop at national borders when looking for interesting startups. Young enterprises from the region around our Freiburg office are in particular profiting from this development. Recently, we advised the 2012 established findbox GmbH together with our French partner firm Racine in the entry of the French investor SES-imagotag S.A..

This remarkable development was the main focus of discussion when we met with our partner firms from the PECS network on 7/8 October 2016 in Zurich. Together with our colleagues from Finland, France, the UK, Italy, Canada, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Turkey we updated each other on the most recent trends in the respective startup communities. We are pleased that we can support our startups also internationally together with seasoned local lawyers who are well-networked in the startup scene. We are particularly proud of the cooperation with the startup desk of our Swiss partner firm Kellerhals Carrard that was already established in 2012 and is led by the Zurich based partner Karim Maizar.

The next opportunity for building up the international startup network will be on 26 October 2016, when we invite together with Kellerhals Carrard to the Museum of Art in Basel. In the breathtaking architecture of the new museum building that can be explored during guided tours after the event, we will learn about how “old economy” and startups can inspire and reinforce each other. The speakers of the evening are Christoph Kausch, CEO of MTIP MedTech Innovation Partners AG (Basel), former Head of Strategy of Syngenta, who takes the investor’s point of view, and Michael Lauk, CEO of neuroloop GmbH (Freiburg) and co-founder of several startups, who will talk about the experiences of a startup in the collaboration with “old economy” investors.
